Farewell to Pastor Dan @ the Park

Having served our church as the worship and young families pastor for several years, Pastor Dan announced his resignation from the church a few months ago. He will still be in the area but pursuing a different area of ministry as a marriage and family therapist. Sabbath after church we will have a potluck in the park @ Wildwood Canyon park to say thank you to Dan, Janice, Rachel and Sarah. Come join us, bring some food and say thanks to the Nyirady family.

A Reaction to "A New Kind of Christian"

We have just finished our discussion of "A New Kind of Christian". I am so excited for many reasons.
1. The conversations and insights we shared together have challenged us to stretch our minds.
2. I have developed a friendship with the sacred few that shared coffee, muffins, and love.
3. I am done with 6:30 AM meetings.

But I have truly cherished the past several weeks and asked T. Higa who attended every meeting to shared some reflections. So here it is. Thanks T. for sharing.

What is your soul purpose in life? Is it to “save” as many souls as you possibly can? What about getting yourself into heaven? Or on the flip side of that, trying to stay out of hell? Is it possible that there is more to life than all of that combined? Jesus said the most important commandments is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matt 22:37-39). If those were the most important commandments in His eyes, shouldn’t it be in ours as well? Isn’t that what being a Christian is all about? In “A New Kind of Christian” Brian McLaren probes into these questions and sheds light on a new view of what Christianity is. During the past several weeks, Pastor Isaac’s discussions has brought a fresh look at what we should be most concerned with. Instead of trying to figure out how we can get into heaven, we need to immerse ourselves into this world and help those in need. Jesus was not focused on going back to heaven, Instead, He lived His life to serve others, and this is how we should live our lives.---T. Higa
