Young Adults Host Potluck this Sabbath

Our First potluck of the year is this Sabbath. We will meet in the fellowhip hall after 2nd service. This is a great chance of us to be part of the larger church life. Bring food to share and enjoy a great lunch together.

We can also use some help in setting up and and clean-up. If you can help that would be great. Just reply to this post.

Ignition Conference NAD YA Ministries

Ignition Conference:
Here's the update from my young adult ministries conference I was at in Dallas this past weekend. I am proud to share that the young adult ministry in north america has gained official status. This has been a journey to achieve and we continue to break new ground and our Calimesa Young Adult group is a big part of that especially in the larger church community setting.

There are not many young adult ministries that engage in the life of the larger church family as we do here in Calimesa. We contineu to strive to recognize the importance of the wide demographic group as well as the specific needs of our individual phase of life.

The Young Adult leaders are making plans for a significant presence at the general conference session in 2010 in Atlanta, GA. We are also gearing up for our annual mission emphasis, Cruise with a Mission which many of you attended this past december.

Special Visit to Braswell's Nursing Home

We will be visiting the Braswell's Nursing home to spend Valentine's Sabbath with the residents. We will meet at the church (garden chapel as usual) and carpool over to the nursing home together. There will be a Valentine Card(s) to sign for the residents. At about 10:10 Jessica will lead us over to the nursing home.

We will sing a few songs, spend some time with residents and then return in time for church at 11:15 where Pastor Chris will be starting a new Easter sermon series.

*NOTE: If you miss us we will be at: 13542 Second Street, Yucaipa, CA 92399

A Response to Lent

This past Sabbath we discussed the season of Lent, a 40 day period of sacrifice. Cardinal Rigali, Archbishop of Philadelphia, provides a short challenge to his parishioners to live Lent faithfully in the video below. How do you respond to his challenge? Is it important in your spiritual life to contemplate the temptations Christ experienced? Are you willing to take up the challenge and sacrifice something in your life as a tool to focus on Christ's sacrificial gift?

Lent: Repentance, Reflection, and Grace

here's a worship thought of the week:
PEP is a rehab program in the Texas prison system started by a former wall street exec. She trains former felons business skills that will be marketable when the inmates are released. What a fascinating concept during this season of Lent, a season to reflect, repent, and experience the soon approaching symbol of Grace on the Cross. One graduate of the PEP program sings of this Amazing Grace during his graduation. Truly moving.

Respond to SS Dr. Mark Carr: Just War Pt 2

Dr. Mark Carr challenged us this past weekend to think about conditions of war and the appropriateness of war. One of the things we discussed was proportional response when it comes to what is acceptable in war. Here is a clip from The West Wing that discusses this concept. How does this challenge our Christian thought.

The actual Sabbath School discussion with Mark Carr will be available soon.

I still feel a little cold and wet but what else do you expect from a great morning of football, the only true way to observe the big day. Thanks to all those who came out to play football in the cold rain. It was lots of fun. We'll definitely do it again. video
