Thanksgiving Traditions

Trips up to San Jose will always include a stop at Panera. It has become habit that Grace gets her "fix" in the mornings. I sit here writing this morning reminiscing about last night grand feast. It was probably very similar to your dinner yesterday as well. Then if your family is like ours then people were debating about participation in black friday nonsense.

Traditions...things that happen from season to season, occasion to occasion to symbolize something important. Like families, churches also have traditions. Like baptism, footwashing, worship services, etc. But why do we have some traditions? Are they any less important in value if one generation doesn't grasp it's meaning?

Share your families traditions and learn from others this Sabbath at 10AM.

Very Special Sabbath School Discussion with Pastor Chris

We are very excited because this weekend we will have Pastor Chris joining us in Young Adult Sabbath School. She will be presenting on women in ministry. Although she is not the exclusive voice of women in ministry...she is my hero in this area.
She will be sharing about her personal journey, some history of women in pastoral ministry, and also some current politics around women in ministry.
If you have a question you would like to ask her this Sabbath; post a comment and we'll pass them along to her.
This is a special opportunity so don't miss it!

Volunteers needed for Photo Directory

Here's a great opportunity to do something meaningful at church. We need some volunteers to be host and hostess for our photo sessions as members come and sign in for their pictures. The tasks are very important but not technical. Mrs. Barbara Beglau would ideally like two people at each of the above times. If you can help leave comment or send me an email and I'll get you her contact info.

Tuesday Nov. 27th from 5:30 - 9:30
Tuesday Dec. 11th from 6:30 to 9:30
Wednesday, Dec. 12th from 5:30 to 9:30
Thursday, Dec. 13th from 5:30 to 9:30

A time for everything

With the change of time. What's the point of adding another few weeks to daylights savings time anyways. I really wish that our elected leaders in Washington would spend their time on worthwhile meaningful things rather than making legislation on extending daylight savings time. Anyways...did you notice that some of your electronic equipment changed time automatically at the old daylight change date? I even heard of some stories where people were late to work because their clocks changed when it wasn't supposed to.

With the change of time comes a new look for our blog. What do you think. Let me know and if you want I can change it back. Also send me some of your halloween pics and maybe I'll pick one to put on the blog.

Living Conversations

some of you are aware of living conversations. It is a monthly gathering of adventist young adults in Loma Linda. It is organized by my friend Julius Nam (professor of religion at LLU). He tries to provide opportunities for conversation and growth among ourselves as Adventists as well as ALL of our neighbors, inclusive of their faith traditions or lack there of.

Friday night is the next one at his house in Loma Linda. Dr. Rick Rice and Dr. David Larson from LLU Religion will be exploring the ideas of open theism and the idea that God might not know everything before it happens (very simplified explaination).

Anyways, you're invited. I know several of you have attended already. If you are interested in going just comment on the blog and i'll get you directions.

Are you curious who you are?

So as I am preparing for Adventist Cafe at Loma Linda for Thursday here are some interesting numbers I found about our church. These facts and figures are as of the end of 2006.

Stewardship of the Environment

This past Sabbath we looked at the potential we have to do great good in caring for this world. Stewardship is a word that Christians love to use when they discuss financial giving in the church but stewardship is much more than that. It is how we tend to and care for what we have been entrusted. This includes, money, time, our intellect, relationships, children, and even our world.

One key idea that came out of the conversation on Sabbath was a deistic thought that suggests that God has made Himself less and less available in this world through time. In turn asking us to step in and take a more primary role in the happenings of this world and our lives.

What do you think about that? Please share.
